Art Grows in the Park
Arts Activities and Garden Crafts for Children
Mexican Tissue-Paper Flowers
Come have a seat in the shade and fan-fold tissue paper to create large Mexican flowers. These springtime favorites can be worn in your hair or carried around the festival. Also, make a smaller flower to add to the large wire sculptures that will be growing throughout Kidsplosure!

Butterflies to Dragonflies

If your child is in the mood to paint, stop by this station where flying creatures of the garden can be created. Streamers can be added to help them fly around the park.

Flower Faces and Headbands
Let the images of Louis St. Lewis by your inspiration as you make a "flower face" to hang up at home. Feathers and petals can be added around your smiling face or attached to a headband.

Snail’s Place
A Sculpture in Concrete and Other Stuff
by the Children of Raleigh and Friends

Sponsored by BellSouth

Help create a giant garden critter with sculptor Roger P. Halligan. Sculpt the Snail with concrete (Saturday) or paint (Sunday). Eye protection, rubber gloves, and disposable aprons will be provided for children who participate. Expect to get dirty. ("We always do," Roger promises.)

Roger P. Halligan has been creating sculpture since the mid seventies. He joined the Exhibit Design Department at the North Carolina Zoological Park in 1997, and was instrumental in the development of natural habitat exhibits for African and North American animals. In 1993 he was awarded the State of North Carolina Governor's Award for his work in the design and construction of the Sonora Desert Exhibit. His sculptures are in public collections including the Town of Carrboro, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching in Cullowhee, NC, and the Weatherspoon Art Gallery at UNC-Greensboro.
