Alberti Flea Circus Show
2:30 and 3:30
Media Sponsor: Kidsville News
First Floor Auditorium (CAP 260)

The flea circus has been around for over 100 years as a small traveling show, but Alberti has up-dated the flea circus so that crowds as large as 500 can "see" these delightful performers, including Paddy O’Reilly Shaughnessy who waves an Irish Flag, Captain Spaulding who is shot from a cannon, and the daring diving bikini clad Dardenell who does the traditional flea circus high dive. As the children in the audience encourage and cheer the fleas, help with their props, and even provide the musical cues for their "incredible feats," the contagious energy and enthusiasm soon establishes the Alberti Flea Circus as a "must see" entertainment.

Since 1993 the Molasses Creek band has delighted audiences from the coast to the mountains with their soulful vocal harmonies, powerful musicianship, and captivating presence. The core of this bluegrass/folk band is Gary Mitchell on guitar, Kitty Mitchell on bass, and Fiddler Dave (on the fiddle of course), who make their hone on Ocracoke Island off North Carolina’s coast. In 2000 they won First Runner Up in “A Prairie Home Companion’s Talent from Towns Under 2000.” They were also a feature performer at the First in Flight Centennial Celebration.

Who Was Thursday
4:00- 5:30

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences,
Acro Café (CAP 200)

This acoustic ensemble blends diversity, creativity, and musicality into a unique, ear-catching style. The acoustic guitar of 17-year-old George Bonner provides a richly contoured foundation for the group’s sound, while his brother Andy’s violin drives the lyric lines and atmospheric effects. The duo balances ensemble and artistry with straight-up fun—music for both your head and your heels. The group’s source material includes: Traditional Irish jigs, Argentinean tangos , Acoustic jazz, Ancient English ballads , Arrangements of Beatles tunes, as well as contemporary artists such as Sixpence None the Richer, Jars of Clay, and Five Iron Frenzy, Scandinavian traditional and new tunes , and 1940s swing ballads. Each tune, though, is marked by Who Was Thursday’s own arrangement and unique treatment. The name of the band comes from one of their favorite books, G.K. Chesterton’s novel The Man Who Was Thursday.
